The Rob Guest Endowment is one of Australia’s most exciting scholarship programs, providing financial assistance and industry support to the next generation of musical theatre stars, creators and musicians.
The cause was created following the sudden death of one of Australia’s finest musical theatre performers, Rob Guest OBE, in October 2008. In recognition of his achievements in the musical theatre industry, the Robe Guest Endowment was established in his honour to help emerging young performers in the musical theatre industry. The Rob Guest Endowment was created with the aim of building and maintaining a community for emerging musical theatre artists and to provide one day per year where all facets of the industry join together for a night to remember Rob Guest OBE and to usher in a new generation of musical theatre performers.
Over the first five years the cause grew from strength to strength, running five national competitions and subsequent gala concerts as well as producing Into The Woods in conjunction with WICKED Australia and creating many fundraising initiatives around the country. All these initiatives have been made possible by the support and efforts of the broad entertainment industry in its many guises – Producers, performers, creatives, technical staff, musicians, industry suppliers and venue operators and owners. These projects have succeeded in creating an awareness of the Endowment and recognition of the difference it can make for young aspiring Australian artists.
In 2013, after four years in Melbourne, The Rob Guest Endowment Gala Concert was moved to Sydney thanks to the generous support of the Capitol Theatre and Sydney Lyric.
Now in its ninth year, 2017 is proving to be the biggest year yet with The Rob Guest Endowment awarding more than $50,000 of prizes to the next generation of theatre stars.
